HSM and changed or archive bit

2013-10-31 Thread David G. Schlecht
HSM is intermittently failing to backup new datasets. I suspect that someone/something is resetting the changed or archive bit on the dataset before HSM gets to it. Can anyone tell me how I can view the state of the changed bit on a dataset? Furthermore, I’m only guessing but I would hope that

My 1st suspect would be df/dss. There is an option to set/reset the change bit. HSM also had an option to reset change bit on dump. Check the fine manuals. Couple of old programs on the CBTAPE can show the state of this bit. (DASD? Not sure which file this is in.) HTH, snip HSM is

Subject: Re: HSM and changed or archive bit Check the VTOC instead of the VVDS. I found this on an APAR. DFSMShsm will be changed to reset the DS1DSCHA bit to OFF in the format-1 DSCB of each volume the data set resides on during backup processing. This solution applies only to nonVSAM data sets

1. ADRDSSU used to turn off the changed bit after a volume backup by default. It has been changed to not be the default but can be selected by a used. 2. Management class field Backup Required value no allows a dataset to migrate before being backed up. On Thu, Oct 31, 2013 at 1:51 PM, David G.

David, It ain't pretty, but you can do an IEHLIST of the VTOC in DUMP format. The byte at offset 93 is where you will find the DS1CHIND bit (bit ..1.). One thing to remember is the dump portion of the listing actually starts at offset 44 of the format1 DSCB. Rex On Thu, Oct 31, 2013
