I certainly did not want to cause confusion - this is why I said " There is
actually more science..." I was passing on what we learned through trial,
error and then a phone call. And blast it, you are indeed correct Kris.

Jim, I'd say your append can introduce confusion.
The vcpus still count for absolute shares. But, indeed, the number of real
CPUs come into account: the % written on the SET SHAER command is expressed
as a % of the whole system.
If you have 10 CPU's, a SET SHARE ABS 5% LIMITHARD means that a unip

Hi there!
The last sessions needing chairs are the following:

There is actually more science to this than one would imagine. We just went
through this and chatted with Bill Bitner on it to try and understand it
all. Here are the things to keep in mind for setting SHARE (besides what is
already written in the HELP):
For RELATIVE share, the amount should be
Gotta love the small company mindset.

The desired goal can be reached quickly within the required time,
cheaply, with few people, and work well! ;-)

Yes - a perhaps less flagrant a violation would be a NODROP option to
tell it to not drop dialed devices when it does the reset. Another
possibility would be to have some type of special device definition that
would retain the connection across a reset, thus eliminating the need
for an option on th
I "think" that you would be introducing an architectural violation. I
am pretty sure that a real s/360 thru z9 ipl does a channel reset on all
channels (chpids).

Thanks for clearing this up, Jim, I appreciate it. I can certainly
appreciate the fact that as the z/VM and Linux Project lead, your plate
is full most of the time.
I will not be able to attend this SHARE (drat, work), but please
give my best to all the new Knights and Ladies and eat a pie
Since workloads vary thought the day it is very hard to say one way or the
other what is best. The rule of thumb of course to give the machine doing
the most productive work the highest share. It is also important to remember
that the busier your z/VM system the more important the sharing becomes.
Absolutely not. It was my decision plus considering there is a significant
cost involved and with the venue (a VM birthday party) the thought was that
pictures and a video or two would cover it. I honestly do not have the
bandwidth to put something like that together in a short amount of time.

still have a AT&T Global Network Services account and UserID.

Hello Catherine,
Within the HINTS and TIPS for VSE/ESA 2.7 is the TIME command that will
