As part of a modernisation program we converted DCF/Script (inc.
GML/Bookie) source to HTML using B2H. Most of the time users can access
this data via the web server and print from the browser. However we do
have a requirement to print a significant number of documents where this
would be time
Would this suit your needs?

Hi Kris,
I found something similar (H2S) but that is no good as we don't have DCF
any more. I will try to check this out and, if it can produce a flat file
instead of script, then it would be perfect.
Thanks

folks ...
Can someone recommend a command tool which would make changes to a NAMES
file? In particular, I'm looking for something that would safely edit
the NAMES file much like NAMES EXEC does, preserving comments and nifty
things like that, but without getting into fullscreen.

You can do that.
Get the 2 cards as soon as you can - they have been known to fail.
Now, I'm wondering, must this be a layer 3 VSWITCH only or would the VM
stack support running on a layer 2 VSWITCH?

Larry,
This definitely the way to go. Since availability is your main concern (vs
capacity), if possible connect the OSA's to two different physical switches
in case one of those goes down.
Good luck!

Hi Listers.
We are in the planning stages of implementing GDPS/XRC. We have z/OS,
z/VM, and Linux on zSeries (running as guests on z/VM). z/VM is at 5.3
installed on CKD. Linux is SLES9 SP3 installed on CKD and SCSI. CKD for
/ (root) and SCSI for user data. The SCSI is via EDEV.

It's very possible. I do it all the time.
Put a NICDEF in the directory for TCP/IP, and set up the interface. It
can be the same as your real OSA interface (device number, IP Address,
etc). TCP/IP on VM won't know the difference.
And when you get the second card, the failover process will
I believe it would be a layer 2 switch at this point.

What would I reference as the Link and Device statement for connecting
the Main z/VM Stack to the VSWITCH?
I was thinking of creating the addresses for the main z/VM Stack using
NICDEF statements in the directory and coupling it to the VSWITCH then
make sure the Controllers are started first
Thanks, for the confirmations

Hi, listers,
Is there way to shutdown linux instance gracefully from VM without
logging into linux, not forcing off. Like sending msg to linux to
shutdown.
Thanks,
Ann
Try something like: SIGNAL SHUTDOWN guestid WITHIN 300

Define a QDIO OSA at your choice of address.
I was thinking of creating the addresses for the main z/VM Stack using
NICDEF statements in the directory and coupling it to the VSWITCH
On SLES10:
Use Signal Shutdown
joe /etc/inittab
/shutdown *r/shutdown *h/ (don*t restart, shutdown and logoff)
save
Of course, if you are using some packages/products that need to be
shutdown gracefully, you may need to update /etc/init.d/rc.3/ (or use
yast/system/system services (runlevel)
Ooops forgot.
The signal shutdown works when you:
1. Shutdown VM
VM will signal all guest machines to shutdown
2. Force linux_image
CP will signal the guest to shutdown
force linux_image immed to immediately force the image.
With both options, the guest image will be logged

That's not really necessary. SLES (at least) won't try to re-IPL in response
to a signal shutdown
I'm scratching my head here. What am I missing??
q vdisk syslim
VDISK SYSTEM LIMIT IS INFINITE,18925 BLK IN USE

Never mind.
I found the maximum a single disk may be is 4194296 .
Less than helpful error message - vdisk space certainly is available!
