Dear colleagues:
I am entirely in favor of whatever model best addresses the need to
support ongoing useful discussion, either in this forum or any other
venue. As members of the VM community, we are all ultimately dining at

Question for those of you using PPRC. We're about to jump in.
Do you need to keep offline in system config the secondaries? And have
2 system configs in case you need to run off the secondaries?

I have an exec which runs in AUTOLOG1 at IPL, plus every half-hour (in case
something changes while you're running), to vary off all but my primary
DASD volumes. Looks like:
VM_DASD_addrs = '1000-10FF 1100-11FF 1910-1917'
'PIPE(name DASDOFF endchar ?)|',
'CP Q DASD ALL |',

I'll bow to the group and will remove the forum and focus the

We use z/OS HCD to define our I/O configuration. The secondary volumes are
offline there. When in a D/R situation, we re-cable the secondary into the
primary CHPIDs and re-IPL (small shop).

Twice in the last 4 weeks, we've had a problem on a random CHPID (bad
GBIC or something like that), that generated hundreds (thousands) of:
HCPERP602I DASD DE3E AN INTERFACE CONTROL CHECK OCCURRED
HCPERP6303I SENSE = INVALID
HCPERP6304I IRB = 04C24017
We have primary and secondary both online, since ages... The HW protects
you for mistakes: you cannot write to/read from the secondaries.
