I will respond to your message when I return.

About the only thing I see different between mine and yours is the UNITADD
on the IODEVICE. I don't have that in mine.

Like Mark, I too do not have the UNITADD on the IODEVICE lines. If I
recall correctly, you use this parameter to reassign the device number
to something else. In your case, having them all 00 should/would cause
a problem.
This makes me wonder about my IOCP. I am not using a real 2105 but an
The CUADD on the CNTLUNIT must match up to the control unit number

Dave,
Some basic cabling things to check if the hardware and cabling was just

Verify that the 2105-800 interfaces that are connected to the z800 are
Ficon ports (and not Open Systems Fiber channel)
Verify that the cables used (Long Wave/Single mode/Yellow) or (Short

Thank you for the response, Dick. (and Tracy as well) I did peruse
recent threads discussing VLANs including yours, but my requirement
regarding the use of a specific NATIVE VLAN presents a different problem
from what I saw in your definitions, especially considering that you are
using z/VM 5.3,
From what I understand on 5.2, yes, you can't have a different default
than a native.
But, can't you just not use a default? Just specify it on the set
vswitch grant command?

Hello Aria,
I have asked the same question.
Our IOCP for DS6800 with four 1 g ficon cards and two enclosures.
Each FICON card in the Z890 has two connections.
This way one card can fail and we still have access to all DASD.
Each dasd will have a preferred path too.

The number of control units doesn't make a difference to VM. From a
performance perspective, just make sure you always have at least 1
preferred path on-line to each DS6000 disk.

Ed and Steve,
Thanks for the clarifications. Since I am using direct attached ESCON,
I don't have any preferred paths. All the paths are online and attached.
I could never find any manual that stated one way or the other if
there was any improvement or not. Thanks Steve for clearing that up.
Marcy, On 5.2, if you specify a VLAN on the SET VSWITCH GRANT command
you'll get a error message saying you cannot connect to a VLAN-UNAWARE
VSWITCH (it's unaware if you do *not* specify a VLAN on the DEF VSWITCH
command).
Now, as it turns out, I believe I had the correct definitions originally
Thanks to all that replied to my question!
Although TDMF is probably much faster than DDR's, the zVM dasd is not
currently defined to zOS.

If it isn't, then you might try a password of ALL rather than ANY;
there's nothing special about ANY.
