Folks,
For small minidisks I used to use "DISK DUMP" to store it in the
spool. I know its slower and you need to be sure you don't fill the
spool space, but, if you are tight on DASD space, it can be quicker...
I assume this will stil work ?

Hi Jim,
Are you linking the MAINT 123 in MW mode? I didn't see this problem

I'm seeing a strange problem with z/VM 5.4. On my 2nd level z/VM 5.4
installation system, I have the predefined PARM disks, MAINT CF1, CF2,

volume. The problem that I am seeing is that, originally, from MAINT, I

Yes.
When you increase minidisk space (unlike SFS filespace limits) the CMS
filesystem is not updated.
The typical method to increase the disk space is to allocate a NEW minidisk
(e.g. 291) at a new location with the larger size, check the allocation for
overlaps with DIRMAP or DISKMAP (DIRMAI

Hi
I ran of space on my A disk so I went into the user directory and made
it bigger brought the new directory online logged back on the guest and
I am still out of space. Am I missing a step here?

RSCS V3.2 at 0201 is as new as you can get under z/VM 5.2. On z/VM 5.3
it becomes a feature but I don't think the code gets any newer, just

I'm writing an article for CA about baby-boom mainframers (that's me

about what we're all doing and seeing and facing in our careers.
Do people plan to work as long as they're able? Because of

Catching up on some older posts, sorry for the late response Tom. :)
At one site I support we have multiple very large SFS servers, the
largest of which has over 116,830 3390 CKD cylinders (21,007,245 blocks

Hi Terry,
I was just catching up on some old posts to the list, so you've probably
already resolved this - but I thought I'd let you know a much better way
of doing this:
/*Query if a virtual machine is logged on and exit on CP QUERY USER RC*/

A single virtual machine can have 24,576 devices. This is an arbitrary
limit to control the amount of internal control blocks that take up main
memory below 2G.
A VM LPAR will support the number of real devices allowed to be defined via
IOCP to a single LPAR in subchannel set 0. This is defined
The MCL is 55. We are not sure what the level set was, but there were
one or more patches put on piecemeal that spontaneously caused the
errors. We have now been upgraded to 55.13, and a test VM that we just
brought up confirms that the problem has been resolved.
Affected apps are CA Hidro, and
Hello Ray,
Do happen to know more specifics on the MCL? We are on a Z890
and the CE does these updates often.

Update and heads-up: Our problem turned out to be a bad MCL update on
the z890 that only affected apps doing long CCW chains. We are fortunate
enough to have a backup system to move VM to while the problem was being
investigated and patched. There is a lesson here about "non-disruptive"
MCL changes
