Stephen,
We are using the IPMAILERADDRESS in the SMTP CONFIG file to route
all email
from VM through our standard email server on the network. The trick
is to make sure
that SMTP cannot resolve any addresses so that is uses the
IPMAILERADDRESS.
There may be an easier/better way,
In our group, we support z/VM, zLinux, z/OS and z/VSE. But we are only two
people working in a development shop.

We started with it all in our area(z/VM and Linux) ie Mainframe support.
As the work load increased, someone decided the Linux support needed to be
moved to the Unix group (Lots of politics involved in that decision) . Now
the Unix group has decided this work can all run better and cheaper on 'P'
Almost all customers I've consulted with divide the support among 2
different groups - a z/VM (mainframe) support and a Linux group (usually
already supporting Linux on other platforms).
Having said that -- one phenomena always occurs:
Either someone from the mainframe support group ends up

There may be an easier/better way, but we put a special version of
TCPIP DATA on the SMTP machine. It has the NSINTERADDR commented
out so that SMTP cannot use DNS to resolve any addresses. This
forces the use of IPMAILERADDRESS.
As I indicated in my previous post, just use
does anything restore at all?
Are you dumping to drives set up for automatic encryption and then
trying to restore using non-encryption capable drives?

Hi all,
10 days ago we activated z/VM 5.4 in production. All worked really well.
But yesterday when I logged on MAINT I noticed that CMS didn't IPL. It now
seems that IPL 190 no longer works (in any VM-userid). After entering the IPL
190 command (or just logging on to MAINT) nothing happens.

This seems to be related to missing interrupts for the volume(540RES) where the

Thanks Alan. Although not documented in the 5.2 manual, it still works.
