No. I have uploaded one and it failed. Then I downloaded it to a
different folder and Adobe Reader had no problem opening it. The file
wasn't getting corrupted in the transfer.

Thanks. Unfortunately that was where I started and, after grasping at a
few straws, returned. I did intercept the output stream and write the
data to a disk. It is an exact match of the original PDF file and, when
downloaded to my PC, it opens just fine with Acrobat Reader 8.

It's been a long time but I know this worked for me when I used Webshare
so I started up my old server and served a PDF file without any problem.
I then looked at my HTTPD CONFIG file and noticed that my config file
had 'binary' listed for file type of PDF and mime
I have on another server and it displays properly. How do I get to the
HTTP headers from the browser?

You can use a plugin like LiveHTTPHeaders for firefox but I don't think
you need this. Did you try my suggestion to switch to binary?
