Ismael,
To mount a VTS tape in your bare LPAR your VTS administrator can use the IBM
Total Storage Tape Library Specialist browser-based application to do a Perform
Standalone Operations (PSO) mount of a VTS tape in a VTS drive address
available to your LPAR. A non-browser-based PSO method is
Ismael,
If you have access to the 3494 LCD screen console, you can use it to mount
tapes. All of our Stand-alone backup are on 3592 tapes, So if we need to mount
a tape that is outside the 3494, we follow the section: 3590/3592 Mount
outside the 3494
But since your tapes are in the VTS, the
I got the following message from TCPIP (540) server:
DTCMON402W TCP/IP was very low on TCP Connections.
Of 511 blocks, 73 are free after 73 more were allocated.
What does this mean? Messages and Codes says it were self-explanatory;
well, I could not find any buffer or other limit name
Sent this to the wrong listserv to start with...lol
Meant to send to IBM-MAIN. I had mail turned off on VM listserv.
Wondered why no one responded!
I did have the slash instead of the period after techsupport. It's
working now.
Thanks!
Hello Ismal,
The Virtual Tape system will have a console.
From that a console, you will tell the Virtual Tape system to mount the
Correct tape on the VIRTUAL Address that is defined.
Then on your SERIESZ hardware console IPL from that tape drive.

Anyone successfully running CA-VTERM on z/VM 5.4?
It seems to work fine on 5.3 and on 5.4 if the virt size is =24m.
On 5.4 if the virt size is 24m a lot of bad stuff happens.

Strange, but I can get by this by doing
Oops that should be = 24m..

At the risk of sounding stupid, what are the commands to mount another page
volume to a running z/VM system.
Do I need to first add these volumes to the System Config fie?
Thanks
Thomas,
Call CA VM Support ... they can give the PTF to resolve that problem.

I'll paste some previous responses to this question from the listserv.

You should be aware that you can search this listserve easily, too, at:

Howard,
You don't need to add them to the System Config 1st. The steps I use
are as follows :
1. DET FROM SYSTEM( address of new page volume)
2. Q CPOWNED (To get next available slot number)
3. DEFINE CPOWNED SLOT nnn volser (nnn = slot number , volser =
Please add them to the SYSTEM config first it is a check and balances
procedure to assure you do not forget that part.

One thing not mentioned is that in order to DEFINE CPOWNED, there must be a
reserved slot in the current (active) SYSTEM CONFIG file. Use the command QUERY

any time prior to the IPL, even a month or a year prior if you

I will check email at night, please call me if anything urgent.
Since this is a Page volume you are adding it doesn't matter much, but if it
were a spool volume I would recommend updating the system config file as soon
as possible, preferably before you make the dynamic change. If the system were

The other LPAR would be z/OS.
What would be the equivalent z/OS command with same functionality like vm's
'DFSMSRM MOUNT' . I asked the MVS person; I googled, but so far nothing.
Thanks.
