Only if you used IND$FILE to transfer them to your network and they were
text files originally, I'm afriad.
FTP uses different ASCII-EBCDIC translation tables to IND$FILE which means
it won't work if they were really FTP'ed.
IND$FILE is usually a 'File Transfer' facility within a TN3270 Emulator
I have successfully retrieved IND$FILE files transferred to a PC as text by
using LRECL 1024 on the IND$FILE RECEIVE options.
Not sure about FTP though.

Besides: I use Foxit Reader to read PDFs as default, but Acrobat Reader 9
doesn't want to read it either
