Learning basic drawing api's is required for a computer science course i believe. Try using Allegro libraries and gcc instead of GTK/QT etc. The idea here is to get familiar with graphics alkgorithms rather than creating a game or a gui application. @Narendra, please be gentle when you answer

Allegro is nice, infact Ashik, Sooraj, Prasad and myself had conducted a small seminar on that in Mar Baselios College of Engineering. It is a good API, and it is similar to that of BGI. And I guess it is pretty simple to start with Allegro, you can do a simple web search. I guess this question
