I have here a 20 2 GHz Intel iMac in which the internal mic used to
work, but now the only sound that comes in is a steady buzzing noise
through the internal mic. I tried to plug in a headset mic either
directly or through a USB iMic but no sound at all gets in through that.

I am having the same problem with my G5 iMac where it has a fuzzy noise
overlaying the speech coming from your voice. I really don't know what could
be causing it, but i suggest getting a USB logitech mic like i did.

Out of curiosity, I just got an iMac G4 1.25Ghz. I do have the mini display
adapter, and would it work to extend the desktop or would it just duplicate
it? the screen's a 17.
