Update: Got a new 7200 RPM hard disk installed, and put Lion on it. Now
it's been working like a charm for 4 days straight! :D

One thing worth trying is a RAM test, my Dual 1.8 GHz G5 felt overly slow
(felt like Leopard on a 400 MHz G4-I did that once), and the cause was I
had a failed ram module. I'm not sure of a tool for Mac, I just stuck the
ram into a PC and ran Memtest86.

You should obtain a copy of Onyx and run the the option that looks like a
Hammer.
This application cleans up almost all problems that are OS related.

takes so long to start up. There were even small programs to eliminate
this for those who wanted a quicker startup.
