XML-based would be very nice. Even it were just an XML-build language
that generated the final package ala the WiX project for MSIs

XML build language is integration with an automated build process.
It does seem to me that have a

Yes I do on a daily basis right now (WiX v3)...which is why it was

Seconded. This goes to Keith Bierman's discussion about large Linux
customers moving to Solaris. Everything has to compile/build/work
seamlessly for those kind of environments to contemplate the move.
Inevitably things go wrong during migrations of that sort...it seems

My two cents probably isn't worth much. That being said,
branding/marketing seems like a pretty important discussion to me
given the target of expanding OpenSolaris mindshare. The technical
bones need to be (and by-and-large are) strong. But it needs to look
good and get talked about outside the co
sions. Will there be a SPARC
version of Indiana in its first release?

I suppose that's a long way of saying count us as a vote for Indiana
for SPARC...Xorg is not so critical though for us.

Hi Guys,
It seems to me that its always a good idea to keep /tmp and /var/log
separate, that way filling up your root partition or the /var/log
partition, doesn't affect the OS's ability to allocate and use temp
files. Some strange things start happening when /tmp is full.
Just my opinion.

Hey Guys,
As someone who's come to OpenSolaris from outside the community, I
think the decision is right on. And Ian's comment that he doesn't get
it. It seems to me that community is important, but OpenSolaris has a
larger identity issue vis-a-vis the non-community.

Hello,
What permissions should a user account have to run any of the IPS GUIs?
Problem is a default user account doesn't have the requisite permissions for
pkg, and root doesn't have access to the display. Thank you in advance for
your help.

Hello all,
Are there plans to include a Python 2.5 rev in the final Indiana release?
The version OpenSolaris has been shipping has been ancient for a long time.
Doesn't look like anyone as has discussed this since July.

Hey Y'all,
I apologize for this dumb question...but I can't seem to find any
documentation on it. Sun Studio 12 bombs on on its install because it can't
find patchadd in /usr/sbin. Problem is I'll be dipped if I can figure out
which package supplies patchadd. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.
HI Laca,
It sounds like it's mostly done, but if we can be of any help I'd be happy
to volunteer. Which community/project is responsible for the Python package?
Best Regards,
Jason

Hey Bart,
I appreciate the point in the right direction.I'll try and grab it from
another SX system.

Hi Lurie,

Hey Y'all,
Don't know if anyone else ran into the same issue I did trying to install
Sun Studio 12 on a clean Indiana DP2 box. There's a few packages missing
from the Indiana DP2 repositories that block Sun Studio from installing.
I've posted a small TAR of the packages here so you don't have to d
Hi All,
Has anyone gotten Indiana LDAP authentication working against an
OpenLDAP server? We have a setup that is currently working with all of
our SXCE boxes, but the required RBAC profile enforcement on Indiana
allows our users to login to an Indiana system but not pfexec to root

Oh...you'll also have to add the SolarisUserAttr objectclass to the
user entry before you can add the SolarisAttrKeyValue.

Hi Richard,
The only issue is that the SUNWswmt is missing from
pkg.opensolaris.org for DP2. Without it, patchadd isn't there and the
install of Sun Studio fails.

Would it be possible for an upgrade not to rename to the new
nomenclature, but a clean install would? With more and more
configuration being moved into dladm, it also seems its getting easier
to create an auto-migration facility for the nomenclature?
Also, having generic names would make it much e
It seems to me Linux folks would prefer ethX naming, and Solaris folks
don't have a problem with the current naming (although trying to
remember that nge and nxge are not even remotely related is kind of
archaic). In that respect, it would almost seem worthwhile to have an

It seems like its been awhile since there was a status update on the
progress of OpenSolaris for SPARC. Is the project still alive? Would
like to load it on a T5240. Thank you in advance.
