I don't know without looking at your spreadsheet but you might be
able to use a Macro in this situation. I'm not sure about using
macros and templates but you could try it.

To keep a formula from automatically being increased by one row or cell, you
need to put the $ symbol in front of the cell or row reference. That will
keep it a constant reference.

I am not sure what you are going to do with the data after you have collected it. If
you plan on exporting the data to other programs it would work better to have the
information organized in row instead of columns. Also I am not sure if sorting works
horizontally in excel
It will keep a constant reference but it doesn't automatically copy
from one column to the next. I do believe that is what she wants it
to do. She can't do a copy/paste because then the individual student
data would copy as well causing more work than it's worth. Thus
