freebie is version 8.2, and that seems to be all that's available now.

customization via text files, without unnecessary complexity or extraneous
information like CQ/ITU zone boundaries, DXCC boundaries, ham prefixes, and
so on.

So where do you get version 9.xx. Only one I could find was version 8.x

I suppose it is just that Geoclock has been around forever and has a base of
long term users. Also, the Geoclock map selection gives more detail that DX
Atlas, not that I often need that.

I converted 2+ years ago from Excel to Access. That way I have single entry
for everything, and can generate reports at will. I believe that any
linking which can be done in Excel can also be done from an Access table.

Don't give up on Excel. Any cell can be a hyperlink with 1 click. FCC info can
be saved as a csv file and directly imported into Excel. I'm not sure what
"searchable" means to you but would the standard "find" feature of Excel be
sufficient? Formatting of the FCC info can be done with a sim
