I've heard a lot about it on the SO Podcast and it seems like a very
good idea. The main issue that they will have is convincing HR
departments to sign up for it,they prefer to use the agency model.

I second this - keeping up with the pace of change of C# and .NET 2.0,
3.0, 3..5 etc is a fulltime job!
Most corporates are a version or two behind anyway. We have people in
our organisation who are having to be dragged from Java 1.4 to 1.5 and
1.6.
