If you haven't deleted the trash from the recycle bin then the easiest way is to go there and restore it. Otherwise explore your way to the My Documents folder and use the applications key while the folder is in focus to bring up the applications menu. Create shortcut is a choice on that menu.

I've found the screen layout mode convenient when I needed to paste something to someone who is sighted, or when looking on the perldoc website. I also find it convenient when I'm using braille. I don't use it for everyday navigation with speech, but it comes in handy for me fairly often.
