How old is the computer?
Could this be a malfunctioning USB port, or have you tried the drive on
multiple computers?

Local PC shops will just use software you can use yourself for free. I
have had success with
data recovery software out there that will recover the data. Especially
if it is just a corrupt partition. It has been a few years since I had

Lenny,
Bummer. I lost a 2 Tb drive a few months back. Fortunately I was able to get
it to read sporadically enough to gather the data that was essential, then I
cut it open with pliers and a screwdriver to see what makes it tick. Now a
new 4 Tb replaced it.

This is not a external powered drive. It uses usb power. 3 different
computers can not see the information but now does see the drive as
unformatted.

If this is a case of your drive disappearing and reappearing, this happens
to me also, with my Seagate Expansion drive. It happens to me often.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the drive. There is a work around,
and you only have to unplug it from the computer and plug it back in.

Does anyone know of a tutorial for JAWS and the new iTunes.

I usually access all my drives from the "run" dialog by typing their letter.
For example, if your external is drive F, you would type "f:" at the prompt
and if it is connected and working, it should open. Although, the drive not
being in "My Computer"/"this pc" seems to suggest that it is in fact

I looked into recovery of an external drive some years ago, too, and it was
indeed very expensive. However, with that drive, there was some kind of
physical problem/malfunction of the heads, and not a corrupt partition. I
think you should definitely look for some other software that can help you,
Hi Jeff,
You can try the following to see if this will do what you want:
1. Open the Settings Center while you have the browser you want to work with
open. Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard is
the keystroke.
2. Arrow down to, Text Processing, & right arrow to
Terry, not a direct answer, but as an Office 2010 user, I periodically need to

Not sure why but my computer now sees the drive however the partition must
be corrupted. I contacted Seagate and their recovery service on the drive is
out of my reach. For a hardware type recovery it would be $599 or $699 if I
wanted them to put the files on the drive. They have recovery

A couple of years ago, I got a CGate 3 TB drive for my Windows 7 machine. It

SATA drives do boast a hot connection. I have a 500 and a one terabyte in

Interesting, my research indicates that anything over 2 terabytes is not
addressed using NTFS, guess you can't believe everything you read on the
internet. Thank you, so I gather you are addressing every bit of your 4
terabytes.

I am already aware that if is an internal drive that goes in a case it has to

it is most likely already formatted.
