When is 3.2.2 final going to be released and put up? I
seem to have a hell of a time getting the branch out
of CVS and building it, not to mention our boss's are
not keen on seeing us use our own compiled version of
jboss. They prefer stable releases. As we have a need

Juha, Marc, etc,
I guess the question I and it seems others are
interested in is WHY did you cut loose these guys, and
so suddenly? There seems to be no logical explanation,
and why at a time when JBoss is really start to shift
momentum and finally become certified and so forth,
why cut a number o
Yet again I can't wait to read the statement that I
hope Marc or someone is preparing right away. I spoke
to two more people tonight, one from Sun that has
learned of the "conflict" going on. I can only imagine
how quickly this is going to proliferate through
various companies that once again JBoss
It seems most of these classloader issues involves
something like:
ClassLoader save =
Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
try
{
Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(someClassLoaderYouNeedToUseToLoadAClass);
.. do code
}
finally
{
Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader
Not sure of the issue, but go get 3.2.2RC2. 3.2.2RC1
and now RC2 have fixed clustering issues. Try it in
this container first, see if it works. If it does,
then you probably came across a bug with 3.2.1. If
not, then on with the answers..

What sort of hardware? I know on our PIII800 with
512MB ram it takes almost 31/2 minutes to start. On my
PIV 1.8Ghz laptop it takes like 17 seconds. On the
PIII800 linux with 512MB it takes a bit over 2
minutes. So I suppose some of this time depends on
hardware/memory. We were running it standstil

Great stuff. One question, what happened to Jetty? It
seemed JBoss moved to Jetty not too long ago, and as
far as I knew Jetty was a better servlet/jsp/web
container than Tomcat. Can you please advise us as to
what is going on here, especially with Greg sending an
email out indicating he and the JE
Some people like forums, some people like email. I
like both, although I agree that it's a pain to have
to post in the forum and email. It would be nice to
have both interlinked somehow.

Hey, that is a bunch of crap! How come I have to
divide my award up with the entire jboss list? So
what, we get like $2 each now?

Get 3.2.2RC2, try it with that one. A lot of
clustering issues have been fixed in the 3.2.2x
release as I understand it, or perhaps not a lot, but
the few there were. We saw problems with 3.2.1 that
worked in 3.2.2RC1, so give it a whirl.

Did you put it in node 2 when both were clean?
Re-deploying of apps in the /farm dir doesn't seem to
work in RC1. You may want to get the very latest RC2
that just came out two days or so ago. That may have
fixed it, but I haven't tried yet. Anywho, I also note
that the only thing that works with f

For me, I want a comprehensive suite of tests to run.
I want to measure the response times between a client
and the server, the time a server gets a request until
the time it goes back, the number of threads running,
the number of simultaneous requests going at one time.

Very good stuff! Question, how can we proceed in
testing a clustered setup along similar lines as you
have done here? I am curious to see how effective
scaling a given application is. From a single node, to
two nodes, to three nodes, then on to a second
partition and so forth. It would be extremely
Where did you hear/read about class cast exceptions?
We haven't seen that in farming. What we have seen is
that re-farming is not working yet. It is being
addressed I believe. We are able to deploy an app, see
it farmed (if all servers were "clean" before we drop
the app in one node), and it works

Hey, finally one I can answer. You are incorrect in
that it is the same loader. You are seeing the
classloader class name, not the actual instance ref. I
believe every bean, etc is loaded by its own instance
of a UnifiedClassLoader. What you need to do is print
out the reference and see that they a

I don't mind the post, others might. I'd love to see
something more affordable though. $40 a month
approaches 1/2 the cost of a RCN MegaModem which gets
me 5 static ips, 3MB down and up to 1.5 up dedicated.
I could run my own series of servers for 2x the price.
I think $10 to $15 per month is a fai
Hey Bill, Sacha,
Do you guys have any test cases you use to test your

What would be the point of hot-deploy then? If you
deploy a new app, how is your session to be accurate
if for example one of the session objects has a new
version behind the object? That is, if you store
Address, and you now extend Address from
AbstractAddress, your old session state object only

Hey all,
Is this a better place than the jboss forums to get
help?
Anyway, I am most impressed with the feature set of
JBoss clustering. Bill/Sacha did a great job.
There are some issues which I have come across though
and would like to point out, and possibly get help on
if I am doing it wrong.
