I've been wondering lately if short videos are a much better way to
teach people software. It seems I always need a lot of pics in help
documentation, and even that doesn't always cut it.
I use an open source program called Camstudio to make my screencast videos.

menu text with little embellishment. The best help is perhaps step-by-step
how-to guides for specific processes.

Java has a built-in JavaHelp system that is HTML based. It seems to
work well, and there are some extensions that have been written for
it:

it seems an interesting idea. I am working around the translation of Sextante
help in Italian, with other people: writing the help in XML format seems quite
easy
