Hi Phil, RE-1800s seems to be supported only 64-bit JUNOS (only the kernel
is 64 bit, all other process are 32-bit). So, you may need to take that
into account before deciding.

In the latest hardware (REs/CBs), juniper have replaced he fxp1 and fxp2
interface with em0 and em1. Is this right?

In the later JUNOS versions, whle using CFM model of OAM, we an option of
interface-down in action-profile, which can bring down the interface is
CFM is down. I've not personally tested, but heard it seems to work.
