kernel 4.13.4 and 4.13.9
With 17.04 Gnome + kernel 4.13.4, I've never encountered these crash during

Thank you for your patience. I now have the servers back with me. I just
tried mainline 4.13.1 kernel as suggested by and it boots fine. All nvme
passthrough devices come up fine.

Even shutdown of laptop didn't help after compiling the driver. Maybe
I'm doing something wrong. Tunables set all to good but the package
lowest state is C3. I'll wait for the upstream patch. I could wait for
almost 2 year anyway, so couple of months I can survive.

Would you be able to point me at all the ubuntu specific patches that
are applied on top of mainline kernel? I can run some bisection on my
side to understand what might cause the issue.

In order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your
earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D
I am still seeing this issues with 4.13.0-16. Ultimately this problem
(at least in my case) seems to be a PCI express power management issue
(see https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pci/msg64778.html).
The following workarounds solve the problem on my system:
