You can attach pictures, but they will not get through unless they are
small. I attached a 75 KB JPG yesterday and I think that is about as
large a file as will get through.

When I first moved to Jackaonville and started a new job one of my
co-workers was building a beautiful KR in his one room efficiency
converted from a two car garage at his parents house. I thought that
being able to eat and sleep in the same room as the KR project gave him
enough cool factor to
Me too, same room, about 20 years ago - and will never cease being
"reminded" of it, so enjoy your good fortune, pardner.

This is great to get these totals.
I do plan to buy the wing skins. Probably fab everything else per the original
way.
A full time job is 2000 hours per year.
Robert, 1500 hours is on the low side of these times. Did you use any prefab
parts like wing skins? what was ur experience prior to
I take a lot of heat from co-workers because I have an airplane in progress
in my living room... of course I'm single, so (as they say) your mileage may
vary.

I think the main reason my hours are low compared to the others is I kept it
simple. I did not deviate from the plans hardly at all. No flaps, only a header
gas tank. My VW engine was purchased used, but all in on piece so I really just
bolted one on versus building one. No fancy

I built mine from scratch, nearly finished- appr. 2300 hours +.
I think with prefab. parts ( it depends how many of them) it could be done in
650 to 1000 hours.

Removed the Zenith carburetor (4.5 hours) to build an adapter bracket for
the throttle Bowden cable. The quest is to use a push-pull throttle knob
mounted on the instrument panel instead of the lever mounted on the left
sidewall. End goal is to get more cockpit space on the left side for me.
Plans built KR-2 retract tail dragger with Diehl wing skins then converted
to Diehl tri-gear, all electronic gauges. 3800 hours build time, $28K in
parts and supplies over 29 years. Painted it myself with house paint. Have
4 flights and still trying to get rid of the tail heavy cg. Left arm

I assume one of those cables is for the choke. I removed the choke
completely from my Zenith carb (and filled the hole made with a carb air
temp sensor) and installed primer fittings in the intakes instead. It
always started easy and one less thing that can go wrong and make the
noise stop.
One of the builders a few years ago built a KR2S in less than a year. Guess
what? He bought a partial with boat complete and some other work done. I was
interested but he got it first! - around 2 Gs) His claim, which found it's
way to OSH was 1 year and 10 grand! Bill's efforts are shown on the

A friend who operated a fleet of Thrusters -teaching disabled people to fly
-passed on this tip if you use Bing type carbs.
He sprayed the carb inlet with WD40 once a month to prevent the slide
sticking.
I was recommended the AMAL- similar to B*ing* carb by an ex RR engineer

Here's another noob question. How many hours does a KR1 take to build? I know
it can really vary, but I'm hoping a few answers will come through and give me
a ball park.
I guess I should add to this topic since I am rebuilding a tri gear
retract. I attached a couple photos and would like to find history on this
plane if possible. The KR2 I have is a standard and has a retract
conversion by Bill DE Freze. The mains are normal KR but installed on the

Funny you should ask this, as I was thinking about it yesterday. I finally
read the January Sport
I have never built a KR1, but have built 2 KR2 and I got in on both of them
as started projects. The first one took as much time tearing out and
starting over, as the rest of the build. The second went fairly smoothly,
but both took me 6 years to complete. I don't think you should be looking

Magazines used to say you could build one for $400, in about 40 hours, and it
would go supersonic. But now we have almost 50
