So we're still over 1000 on the Arachne
lace list,
And how many of those are just lurkers - close to 90% I'd say.
Makes me feel very guilty - I only post very occasionally. My sincere thanks
to all the regulars past and present.

Though I lurk for 99% of the time, I would like to put on record my grateful
thanks for the support I get when I do burst in upon the Arachne scene.
It would be hard for me to mention all the people who have given me access and
photographs of their antique bobbin collections and have also allowed
It is nearly that time of year again. This year's convention is going to
be held in Kidderminster, and takes place on Friday and Saturday 5 and 6
April, and The Hollies (which is not too far away) will be open all day
on the Sunday, where there will be study workshops on the Guild's
collection
I've read a couple of things today that suggest donating items to
museums - all well and good but it is vital that an agreement is made
with the museum concerned whilst you are still alive to understand their
policies before committing your work to their collection.
Not all museums have the

Arachne is probably the oldest,
continuously running lace-focused list.
It's certainly outlasted all those hundreds of family history Mail
Lists which were so popular in the 90s. I'm wondering if it's not the
oldest continually running List there is???

I was wondering that, myself. I am no expert on lists, but it seems like

I for one am very grateful for the list which had kept my hopes up over the
years for getting back my life enough to do lace!

Hello All! May I suggest donating lace lace-related materials to IOLI? Back
in the day, before I made ANY lace, a friend invited me to a lace event in
Pittsburgh (sponsored by Pittsburgh Lace Group) where the study box was in
residence. It was a joy to behold! With white gloves hushed
When there are probably less than 50 regular contributors to Arachne, and
we know that there are another 1,000 or so who are lurking, does that
matter to you?
Do we have a lot of knowledgeable people out there who are takers, instead
of sharers? And do they even care to realize how
I tend to lurk on lists. I share when I know for certain I know what I
am talking about or feel strongly about something. The reason I don't
post more on the different lists is the very real possibility of nasty
replies when my reply is deemed incorrect or my post is taken wrong.

Vila, I feel the same way! There have been many times in life when I have
been shot down in the prescence of others when I attempted to contribute
something in various circumstance. I tend to be a non-combative type of
person so I don't challenge the other person (even when I disagree or feel
Dear Jeri, et al,
In answer to your question, no it doesn't matter to me that while the
contributors are few, the readers are many. I am one of the bigmouths.

I may have sent the same long message twice. Not as bad as failing to trim
but I hope you will excuse the gaffe. Didn't mean to bore you folks twice.

My meaning is everybody shall do as she or he want/feel. I was very shy at the
beginning too, because English isn't my mother tongue. And this is also the
reason I keep quiet if it is about technical things. Using the wrong word and
the other person doesn't understand what I am meaning.

Hello All! My friend Beth (in Edinboro, PA) just sent me a link to some new

It does seem that those of us who post are those who have been on the

the occasional error! There have been times in the past, particularly

When I have been struggling with something in lace the people on arachne
have been wonderful, mostly. But not all of the answers come through the
main group, occasional answers, or snippets of information have come through
directly to me. Some from very prominent members of Arachne and other
Hi Arachnids,
Jane has hit the nail on the head. Just a thank you helps some people to
join in and gives some valuable feedback that the matter under discussion,
be it lace problems, patterns, threads or whatever other lace problems has
been understood by someone. Even the best of lacemakers
All,
Jane has hit the nail on the head. I comment rarely, but that does not mean I
have learned nothing! I have even gained some friends from England to
Australia to Virginia, Florida some in between. If Arachne weren't there, I
would never have met them. Just because we don't post as often
Dear Jane, thanks for your kind comment. Much appreciated. I'm going to test
my non-trimming reputation and say, Hear! Hear! to your comments below. Well
said. Worth repeating. My comments have occasionally been taken in a way I
would never mean to do, when feeling puckish, much to my
Hi All,
I, too, have learned much from the list but do not post often. The family feel
of a list is nice and you get to recognise the style of some of the regular
posters and will occasionally use the delete button if you are having a
difficult day.
I know that if there is an email from Jeri or

Small comment. On my system I can usually just hit reply to answer to the
group. On Arachne I need to hit reply all for my answer to be seen by the
group as well as the person I'm answering. Sometimes I'll repost. Most times I
don't.
I also check to see if my comment has been made by others. It
Many years ago, a lady at one of our Lace Days was complaining about there
being nothing in the magazine this time. I said it was probably because
no-one had sent anything in to be printed! Did she ever contribute?

Hello Again! By now you all know I can't remain quiet for long! On any
topic!! I do want to say that I have been a net taker with regard to
Arachne--having gotten far more help, good advice, resources, inspiration
encouragement than I have given in return. All of which is much appreciated!
I can't believe I almost forgot to register for the Arachne Bookmark
Exchange 2013!!
Even worse as the end photos are put on my site so it would have been
embarrassing not to have done one.
Now to decide which bookmark to make ..
