Hi
I totally agree with Ilske. I was told that money and things had gone
missing from Kantcentrum.
I went to Bruges some 10 years ago and saw at least a couple of museums with
lovely lace in.Couldn't find them this time, but I did find the
chocolate museum (which gave free samples) a

When I went there in 2000, although the museum was lovely, we were not
allowed
to take any photos. Now this is not a problem if the museum has available
photos of
the lace collection but there were none to be had. We were told that
there would be
a catalog available soon and even paid the 5 Euros
beautiful weather tomorrow.

Mechelen has a very nice lace collection as well. Unfortunately, the museum
is being refurbished. They are adding a large part to the museum
underground. As a result the lace can't be seen until 2012.
So you'll have to come back to Belgium.
Mechelen is well worth visiting as a town as well.

Sue,
it could have been Gerardsbergen. This is a museum nearly only for Chantilly
because the two brothers started their business there. In the museum you see
also the coat a lacemaker at that time was wearing and other things special for
Chantilly-lacemaker.

Hello everybody,
as Maureen mentioned the lace museum in Bruges has lost most of its laces
because, as I was told, the former director took them away. The new group has
still lots of trouble to get things in order and if they will get back those
pieces, nobody know.
Also some of the lace shops c
Way back in 1990 we went on a Belguin weekend with the Norfolk Lacemakers
While we were there , we visited several places and in one of these we
visited a museum, very small but with an absolutely wonderful collection of
Chantilly gowns on models, the room was in semi-darkness and we were told it

Like Brugge, Brussels has a lace shop on every block, it seems. But
most are tourist places, with lace made in China and/or by machine.
Still, if you wander in and ask for the hand-made lace, they usually
have a section in the back somewhere, or on display on the walls.
(eek... poor threads!
Hi All
I visited Brugge a couple of weeks ago and went to Kantcentrum. It is
in the process of being painted and spruced up and I looked at the lace
exhibition they have there. There was only a small amount of lace on
display (well in my opinion anyway) and I was expecting more.
to be sure the above mentioned
places are still there and open.

Dear Malvary,
I would suggest to visit Mechelen. It has a beautiful lace collection as
well. But the museum is currently closed for rebuilding. But if she wants
to see a beautiful town, suggest Mechelen!
