Angela coming briefly out of lurkdom - being very busy at present writing two

It was kind of Jane to tell everyone in Lace-Chat that she had reviewed my
Romanian Lace Book in the current copy of the Lace Guild Magazine, and her
comments are very favourable, for which I thank her. However, I am concerned
that some innacuracies give a wrong impression of the format of the boo
Of course I have buttons - lots of them. Some are still on their cards, real
treasures, others are in the round and oblong tin boxes I inherited from
various relatives. The boxes, often advertising tobacco, are probably
collectors items in themselves. Then there are plastic bags of unsorted

It may sound crazy, but having a foot in plaster for six weeks does stop
serious thought! No I did not injure myself, I elected to have an operation
to straighten my big toe, which mean some kind of bone fretwork and a nasty
pin that did not come out until last Friday. This was more serious than
I can't remember having red shoes, but I do remember persuading my mother that
I could not live without a pair of red leather bed-room slippers with a
moccasin front, high heels and a surround of fake black fur. I thought they
were wonderful and wore them until they wore out.

Dear Spiders,
I have been without the ability to send or receive email for the last two
weeks, almost as bad as when I lost my voice and could not speak. The trouble
started when my adult son and my daughter came for school half term, that is
both on their own, my daughter without her children, Han
Sorry, forgot to say I removed the blue-tack as soon as the photo-copies
were done. Then the ancestor photos were put back into the filing cabinet
(shoe-boxes). Blue-tack does leave a slight mark if left on for any length
of time, also it can go hard.
I use it for all sorts of things, including h
I am very lucky to have inherited two family photo albums, one belonged to
my paternal grandmother, the other to her mother, my great-grandmother. The
later album nearly got thrown away by my mother, after all, it was not her
family, but I rescued it about 25 years ago.

The local guide was determined to drag me down this very steep slope to see
the glacier. He was making sure of his baksheesh. My son protested that he
had been taken an easier way two years ago, but nobody listened. I don't
like slippery slopes, but I had never been to a glacier before. The guid
If I said that I liked Gilgit, then loved Karimabad. A little town that
climbs up the steep mountainside, situated within a large river valley
surrounded by high peaks permanently covered with snow. At over 7,500 feet
the air is clear and not too hot. Once again, my son and I were the only

It took a day and a half to drive down the mountain to Gilgit. Mr Bullbull
had visited his family on the way, no wonder he was used to the altitude.
Our second night was spent at a Guest House by a lake. For a welcome change
we had fish for supper. They were quite tasty, but small and full of bone
It was strange to be back in the modern Hotel in Chitral, still the only
tourists. We sat out on the lawn and drank tea, very civilised. We planned
to go north over the Shandur Pass to Gilgit. There was just one little
problem, the Shandur Pass, about 12,000 feet (4,000 metres) was covered

We were sad to leave the village and move to Brum in Bumburet Valley

mound, watched by many male Pakistani tourists, eager to see women with
unveiled faces. The Kalash women have quite distinctive features. Did I

It was a wonderful birthday. We had permission from the Chief to photograph
anything or anybody. We had already been called out from the Guest House to
take pictures of the damsels dressed ready for the festival. My son's ploy

It was my birthday. I awoke in this large square room in the Guest House in
Balanguru Village, Rumbar Valley. Heavy wooden beams held up the ceiling,
pretty curtains just about covered the windows, the bed was comfy, but as I
found only one sheet, I had slept in my sheet sleeping bag. The only

Forgive me Angela for treading on your turf, but curiosity lead me to this

I go through Wyre Piddle whenever I drive to Evesham. It is only a small
village, but very picturesque once you have passed over the narrow railway
bridge, now being widened. I love place names. When I have time, I will
think of some more.

I awoke to bright sunshine and a lovely view of the river and snow-capped

and my son was already sitting outside, drinking tea. I plugged in my

It was obvious from the amount of running water cascading down as waterfalls
and forming in vast puddles on the dirt-track road that there had been a
severe storm during the night. We were about to descend the ladder of
hair-pin bends cut into the mountain side. If there were 20 rungs of the

This has nothing to do with Lace. Jeri did ask whether I wore any lace on
my trip. The answer is yes, on my night-dress but since nobody saw it, it
does not count! However, there are other textiles - embroidery, weaving,
braids to mention only a few.

No offence was meant. I was just trying to give some sort of geographical

who may not know where Cardiff or even Wales may be in relation to other

The double-sided embroidery is one of the wonders of China. I was lucky to
