Thank You all for helping me out with this.
I finally configured the network card and now I'm able to ping the
machines on the network.
The modules which I installed using the instructions at:

1. crc32
2. tulip

How do I go about adding it?

Verify the printing on the main chip.
If it doesn't say RTL8139D then 8139too.o is not the correct module. Try
using the 8139cp.o module instead if the trailing character is different.
Also, there appear to be other cards that use the designation 8139 but
in fact use a different chipset. One of
