You got a point that I had not considered.

Hello again. One more note.Amazon has lots of Z axis and Linear rail that the
prices are pretty good. It might not hurt to look some of them up, Just perhaps
you will be able to find something that you can add to your machines? Perhaps

Z axis is needed if it’s a tilting router on the Z axis

Hi Bill
Do you have any pictures or maybe plans?

Hi Bob,
Have you tried looking at the top-hat bushings? They can be rotated to another
spot and they will be like brand new.
To all,
Their were 3 designs that I’m aware of. The last design did have a plunge rod
like the plunge routers to help with the plunge problem.

That is nice work

this was my z axis I used a plunge router to add fine adjustment to the depth.
Today I would use the small triton router instead of the ryobi the triton has
the fine plunge screw.

Adding stops one each side and extra clamping this stopped movement and allowed
repeated depth settings

Curt thank you for your response. I would indeed like any info on plans or
directions on building a Z axis using the plunge router or what ever.
Any info on helpful owner made add on’s would also be appreciated.
Thank you

Has anyone here made their own Z axis using the porter cable plunge router?
Thanks

I got my 1200 with the original Porter-Cable router. When the Z axis
upgrade become available, I only remember how expensive it was. I never
knew till now that it had issues (not a real surprise to me). What I did
for my 1200 was install a Shop Fox D2893 Veneer Press Clamp to control my Z
I have the 1200 with z axis upgrade also. To me it was no good. Nice ides but a
failure on execution. Without dead on repeatability and without the ability to
deadlock the router in place, it wasn't worth much. The basic plate with plunge
router was much better.

I have a 1200 with the z-axis/digital readout but no lock bar, and I've found
that the only way to keep the router dead on is to fix my palm on the crank
after dialing the height in and hold it dead still while traversing over the
work. A little awkward, but once you get used to it, no biggy.
I agree with what Bib wrote. I regret getting the Z axis unit. Using the base
z-axis and using the plunge on the router is in my opinion easier, faster, and
more accurate.

I have the crank style Z axis with digital readout. It uses a height bar setup.
You dial in the height and lock the bar. Then try to reproduce that height, no
way. As the router drops, the z carriage cocks a little to one side and goes
deeper than set. I have done all I can think of to take the

I was asked in a private e-mail about the Legacy's Z axis. The Gentleman owns a
model 1200 and wants more...
Now Everyone here knows that Legacy no longer sells the parts he wants. I
