Using Legacy for years now after trying many others first.
If you use Alt-PrtScn instead of Shift-PrtScn it will copy
only the active window to the Windows clipboard,
usually removing the need to crop.

Thanks. I appreciate your answer.
Scratch Legacy. I will not use any program that doesn't accept the dates
the way I entered them.

Not necessarily. Legacy is very customizable. One of the options for date
entry is to uncheck the default "check date formatting" which I believe then
leaves dates the way you write them.
I have however not used that option so someone else may need to verify this.

You may be a little premature. There are a multitude of ways of displaying
dates in Options>Customise>Dates and double dating is allowed. However
different programs have their own ways of dealing with double dates - some
may add to the date and some may deduct - it's just a question of getting

Ruth Ann,
Apparently Legacy's new list server does not reject HTML messages. Sherry has
asked users on this list to refrain from using HTML, but many have chosen to
ignore this request.

Ruth Ann,
We do ask that users send email in plain text, as Gene indicated in his
message. Previously, any HTML messages were automatically bounced but
unfortunately, we no longer have that ability with the new mailing list
program we're using.
Thanks for using Legacy.

I'm new both to genealogy and Legacy but not to historical

about the importance of carefully citing sources in family-history

Yes! Please keep this discussion going! Legacy sourcing is a
constant topic in this list and a frustration for many users.
Legacy could make major improvements in this area and probably make

I agree. In one of my earliest messages to Legacy, that was my primary
complaint: the sources screens need to be more stratified by type of source.
I own a very old DOS genealogy program, my first one, that was written in
the 1970s which even then modified the source entry screen to contain

Hi Dennis, you are not alone in your frustration with sourcing issues
in Legacy. Although Legacy's clipboard is great and the ability to
source individual dates, places, names, etc. is also good, the source
output structure is too rigid and does not, in many cases, allow the

But if you just want to create a self-published family history for you

Cathy,
Do you make a copy of your Legacy database before saving a report for

Cathy,
Thanks for your comment about only including the Master Sources for
relatives and keeping the Source Detail for your own use. I like that
a lot and will likely follow your lead.
Thanks again.
