I downloaded the full version of the free one, and starting keying in data.
In the meanwhile, I sent off for the book and disc.
In a few days via email, I got my registration key/customer number. I
opened my program, keyed in the code numbers and Version 6 Deluxe opened.

I was busy entering people into my Legacy latest version, when suddenly
there is an ERROR window opened with the following:

like to try AGAIN - yes/no/quit
I said no, and was able to continue finishing the persons
Susan,
You need to go to http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp then error by
number and look for 3021. You will find that you need to start with
FileFile MaintenanceCheck/Repair and may have to run it twice. If that
doesn't work follow the rest of the instructions.

Cathy,
Thanks for your explanations. Here is what I decided to do with my German,
Polish and Canadian locations:
First I will enter the birth (or christening or whatever) locations as they
were at the time they ocurred, like
18 Aug 1863 - Nordhausen, Sachsen, Prussia
3 June 1859 - Oleszyce,
The AKA - names/terms currently politically incorrect/offensive thread
brought to mind specific problems with certain data, and a more general
question. The data:
A 1775 parish register baptism entry reads: Unity Cooling (base born
Child) of Elizabeth Davis Four years later, another
IMHO, I would list ALL, including all the published
references (with the notation of the ommissions for
those documents) to give each reader the chance to
decide what they choose to retain. I would assign one
date as the most likely, and AKA the others. Have you
considered Unity may be sisters?
What I have done with all 'old place names' is, use
the location as at the time of occurance, then in the
place name notes, I included a list of the various
name changes and dates.

A year ago or so I had downloaded a free Legacy program and entered some family
names and other data. Our computer developed some problems and one of our sons
cleaned it up for us, but first he copied all important stuff to an external

Thanks, it's good to know this so I can stop trying to get at something that

Hello,
Hi all,
I'm one of those people who doesn't often print out reports from
Legacy; if I share info, it's usually by gedcom. But today I was
printing out the source citations for a descendant book report, to
check for appearance, typos, formats that need tweaking, etc. And I
think I don't
Hello I am curious . Do you have a Wilfrid Woodruff in your tree ? I am in

Hi,
To not include your Source List Names as part of your printed source
citations:
On the main Legacy Menu: Click on Options, Customize, then, in the window
that pops up: Click on the Sources Tab, and un-check the box under Source
List Name in the upper right corner, and click Save at the
I am trying to help a Legacy user in Dallas that has a problem with the
Master Source List. After opening Legacy if the source icon is selected in
the Family View it displays all sources that have been assigned to that
individual. Both the Edit Detail and Edit Source will display the

Glenn,
Go to View - Master Lists - Source. On the right-hand side of the menu is a
statement Show Only. If the person has ticked one of the items such as
verified then only that category will appear when you attempt to cite a
master source. Sometimes people tick those boxes inadvertently.
Glen,
Have you suggested trying FileFile MaintenanceMaster Lists Cleanup?

Kay,
I think you will find that only affects the screen at ViewMaster

Hi,
I'd record all data.
To aid that:
Are you aware of the Alt Birth, Alt Baptism, etc fields in Events?
Alt Baptism is the place to put the second baptism date.
Sometimes there are two entries in a baptism register because the
first baptism was done privately/emergency and the second is the
Hi Ron
If I change the show only to verified, click on the icon in Family View,
and select cite a master source, nothing turns up - because none of my
master sources are set as verified at the master source level. I have
ticked some as verified on the assigned sources menu, but this does not

I have been trying to add a pdf file to the notes for an individual with no
success. It copies into the notes but I am unable to retain the file when it
is saved. Any ideas? I have even tried to add the file to the picture gallery
after copying it into Microsoft Word
Thanks

Hi,
You can link to a pdf file or a doc file or any other file type of
your choice in the Picture Gallery - add in the Sound or Video
sections and choose to view All files (*.*) so you can see your files
of other file types.
With some pdf's you can copy the text and paste that into Legacy
I have also seen early American Baptist records where adults were
baptized when they joined a different congregation, usually due to
moving to another area. I would record the one closest to birth as the
baptism with subsequent baptisms as alt baptism.
