Thanks so much, Robert! I think I missed the part
about there being software. I think I will go ahead
and order the trial version, and the Handybook. I
much prefer to have a book, on my desk, then to search
for the county information on the Internet. :)

Pat,
I'm trying not to split hairs on this but surely where the info was found is
the repository and not the source. The source being the name of the original
publication.

That's true - but your family must have been better than mine if you

My name is Diane and I just started using Legacy 6, the

Having used PAF, I decided to try other programs for

And I hope to stick with it if only I could master how to

My best advice on sources is to download the trial version of The
Master Genealogist v6.12 and make copies of their source templates.
I've found them a wonderful guide to organizing sources. I just copied
them off and made a mini-manual that I keep on my desk.

I looked up Tok in Wikipedia and got this:
Tok is a census-designated place (CDP) in Southeast Fairbanks Census
Area, Alaska, United States.
CA = Census Area
(I first tried google for the Geodatabase info that you provided, and
had many hits.)

Nope you are missing anything. Look at it this way: With GEO, you can't

If it's not cost-prohibitive, I would purchase new view binders - the ones
with the clear outer cover that allows you to slip in a custom cover and
spine on cardstock. I wouldn't think it would cost much more than those
metal-framed tag holders that might be difficult to attach to a binder.
Many thanks Susan, really appreciate the help.Tom

Hi Diane
I won't retype all the variations and reasons people lump or split.
Whichever is chosen should suit your own material and possible needs
in future research. Lumpers use fewer master sources and add more
information in the details box, splitters use many more master sources
for names,
Perhaps the ISO standards need to be changed. :-)
