The objectives of compacting any file are to make it smaller and run faster.
Obviously, if the .fdb file has been compacted it will be smaller and hence the
back-up file will be as well, only providing that no additional data has been

True, but she said it was happening *every* time, and has the same number of
people. Unless she was deleting more names the compaction should have a
one-time effect, as would repairing other errors (assuming they got fixed).

Hi
Garry,
This report is currently available in Legacy 6. We've previously published
an article about this entitled How to find ancestors who have missing
information. This is available at
http://legacynews.typepad.com/legacy_news/2006/12/how_to_find_anc.html, in
the Blank Lines Report section.
I cannot find this option either. Would someone specify exactly where do you
find this option for an Amcestral Book Report?

Hello,
I think it is in the standard version.
It know it is in version 6 Deluxe.
Chose - Reports
Chose - Ancestor books
Chose - Options tab
Chose - check the two boxes right under options (given and surnames, dates
and places)
It should work.

I just recently upgraded...
finally from Legacy5 to Legacy6 Deluxe. One one of the persistent
problems I have had with all prior versions of Legacy [since Version2]
is the correct display in the family view for descendants of "half"
relatives when that 'half relative' marries another relation

Walt,
When an option is grayed out that means that the option is not available in
that particular report.

I asked this question several years ago and never really got an answer that

I have seven regular backup files, one labeled for each day of the

Can you find them in the Name List? You can search by surname there. I

Nancy,
I have never come across this problem and frankly do not understand it; perhaps

You say Surname List - do you mean ViewName List or the Index tab?
You go to the wife's/child's name and find him there - where ie. which

I haven't had that problem but here are a couple of thoughts
Have you tried a Fix/Repair on the database?
If you turn on the AKA's in the index, do the missing people show up then?
Is it always the same people missing, or are they missing one day, there
another, and someone else
It's unclear whether you mean the Relationship displayed above the
individuals in Family View is incorrect or you are confused by
the viewing of 1/2 kids.
The ability to View 1/2 kids in Family View is for the convenience of
the user.
It is not an attempt to put on screen a Family Group
IMHO, you have a problem whenever while looking at the
Name List, you can't find every person you expect to
be there. What I would do first find the person by the
round about method you mention, and Tag them to an
unused number. Check that person's spelling and dates
accurate. Turn Legacy off, and
I use a program called Syncback that does the same thing. There's a
free version that works just fine. On that one, you define a Source
(usually a folder on your C-drive) and a Destination (usually the same
folder on your external drive, if you have one, or flash-drive). Click
RUN any time
Replicator and other backup programs are not designed to duplicate an entire
drive. What you would need for that is a disk imaging program. A disk image is
nice, but overkill for most people because it is very time consuming to create.
Assuming you keep the disks that came with the computer,
Look for the wording insert underlines for missing.
