And if you keep overwriting the same file when you do a backup of a tree
file that has just become corrupted you will have - Nothing!

I also keep the backups as filename and date . zip and don't delete them
(but as I am getting slower now at adding new data I only do a backup every
2-3 days. When the list of backups gets very large I copy the older ones to
another disk and usually weed them out a bit keeping at least one per month.
If that list gets large I then weed out the "archive of backups" a bit -
keeping say one per quarter, or for very old backups, one per year. Even
then there is still a risk that there is data I haven't looked at for
several years that has been messed up in some way and by spring cleaning the
backups I've lost the critical point in time.

I would advise keeping as much as you can. If space is an issue then keep
the last 2-3 and then one per month of the older ones back for a year or two
and then yearly before that. Disk space is much cheaper than the fine you
get for uttering naughty words when you lose your data.

Are you creating a new zip folder every time with a different name? You
could just overwrite the same one instead of creating a folder full of them.
