Any universal way to do that?

Thanks for the reply. I've made some progress.
For the child that was adopted by my aunt/uncle I've added an Adoption Event
just saying that he was adopted as an infant. I've also used the Children's
settings and set his status to Adopted. That does show up in some reports,
but not in
This has possibly been discussed before but I just noticed a serious problem
in using Legacy 7 Deluxe, latest version.
The text entered in the window for Events\notes is truncated (only the
first part appears) in the text that Legacy constructs below the window.
But - even more serious - when
Jeff,
It all works fine on my set up so it is not a bug, but something is wrong with
your set-up. I suggest that you go to the Legacy folder and delete the
Event.usr file. This will reset all the defaults for Events.

Did that. No change.
The part below the Event\Notes window just runs out of available space to
show the rest of the text, so it is understandable. But the part where I
cannot enter (or paste) more than 2.5 lines of text (x number of characters)
into the Sentence Override window is really a

I'm not sure I'm understanding about your cousin's husband issue.
It sounds like you have linked him to the couple (cousin/counsin's husband)
but he does not show up as a child on the screen?
Or he does show up there but not when you right click and select Children's
settings
Neither make sense to
Correct for V7 as well. If you do it for one family, it shows for all
families.

On the screen with parents - cousin's hubby and cousin he is there as 1/2 .
If I attempt to access chiidren's settings from that screen by clicking on
the elder child who is a step child I end up at their younger bio child's
record instead. I can only reach child settings for the first child
I am wanting to install V7 and wish to copy/backup all my files to a CD
before the installation. I have 34 files so is there a way I can copy/backup
them all at once.
Yes I know there are too many files and that they should be sorted out first
but I do not have the mental time to do so at the
Kathy,
It does help if you actually say which report. That looks like the Descendant
Book Report. You need to go to Report OptionsFormat and check the box on the
top left Do not repeat duplicate lines.

Why are you using the Sentence Override section for adding Event Notes, or
have I misunderstood what you are trying to do?

HI Jenny,
It was actually several sentences that are part of the event'snotes. What
I did not realize - till now - is that the 255 chars are just for the event
sentence. After that, Legacy permits me to insert the text entered in the
Event Notes which it accepts in full.
So now I realize
No it was I that had misunderstood how Legacy worked there.
When I first went to the alternate sentence tab and entered something, the
resulting text that appears below the window only showed what I had type and
did not include the text I already had in Notes. So I thought to include

Jeff's questions about event text truncation makes me wonder how/when
people are using the Sentence Override feature. This is one of those special
features that makes Legacy so powerful, giving us the ability to make output
truly unique. Time to pick the brains of those most-experienced here.
Sorry - yes it was a Descendant Book report. The Do not repeat duplicate
lines had been checked, however. What I sent was what I get with two sets
of parents linked to the child. If I just have the bio set linked I don't
get the duplication -- but also don't get as much information.
I just
Yes Elizabeth. Not having used it till just now I had not realized just how
powerful a tool it really is. It truly is amazing in what it can do.
If I had any criticism it is that I wish there was an easier way to find
which field one needs to insert from the long list available for inserting.
Hi listers,
I am looking at changing to Legacy as I need a more full featured program as
my research gets more extensive. Legacy looks good although the multimedia
aspects appear lacking. I have two questions:
1. The legacy website states: Now Attach Any Document to Individuals
and
If I remember correctly, the fields are in the order
they show up on the path from the main input screen to
main event screen.
Name stuff (main page), next to the event page,
description stuff, date stuff, place stuff, then event
notes and event name stuff, last issource stuff and
the carriage
You said, 'Are they talking about the clunky way of
inserting documents as a movie or sound file?' Not
sure what you mean by that.
Step one move the 'thing' to the hard drive legacy
looks for stuff in.
Step two go to the person it is for.
Click on the little porttrait between notes and
sources.
Thanks Rich,
I totally did not explain that well. I am referring to PDF files. The
website says you can attach any other kind of document yet there is no
document option only picture, sound and video. Rootsmagic, which I have
also been evaluating, has a file option which is much better and would
I have used Legacy Deluxe for six years, but I have not been using the
Sentence Override feature. I've tried it a few times and it seemed
like too much trouble to bother with. I put minimum data in the event
definition fields, using it as a transition to what I write in the notes
field.
There is now a document option in 7.0.

If it helps, you can just type in the code, like [notes] rather than doing
the insert. You do need to know what the names are, of course.

I Just looked at the picture gallery for a person, and
it now has four icons. picture, sound, video and
file. I have not played with it yet, but it seems to
be the document choice.
I will check it out in a few days, I will be busy with
other stuff.
