I am trying to get my laptop fine tuned for class tomorrow. I noticed that
Legacy on my laptop does not show a bookmark icon in the lower left. I have
searched the help file and cannot locate an option to show it.
What am I missing?

Branko and Chris,
It is important to know which version the FTW file was created in. If it is
an earlier or same as mine I could do it for you. By the way, try to talk
your older friend into Legacy as I have done with several of mine. I love
it, they love it and at least one is 80+.

Meg,
This is what I do. I choose a higher quality print from my printer
depending on the scanned image. If it is clear and easily read I choose
Text and Image, if the original microfilm was a poorer quality therefore a
poorer scan the I choose Photo plain paper. I then scan it into my

I am using Legacy v. 7.0.0.81 and DropBox on Windows XP (on desktop and

because I thought I noticed that err. 91 started then (I may be wrong). But
since I was not having that problem decided to stay with tried and
In tree finder there are several single person trees, when we went in and
linked those people with the correct family and then did a check/repair I
expected to see those trees gone. They were still showing as 1 item trees.
How come?

Just a small question. You said Ditto for media files. Does that mean
that on your Desktop and Laptop your media files are in the same location?
I have all my media on an external drive for my desktop, that wouldn't be
the case for my laptop. Or if

Toni,
I moved from FTM and had no problems. Some clean up was required as I had
broken trees and other issues not easily seen in FTM. I love Legacy and
would never go back. What problems are you having. This group is very
helpful if you are specific about your questions.

As a new user of Legacy coming from a long time use of FTM, let me just say you
are going to love it. I would suggest that you make a gedcom of your FTM files
and import to a Temp Legacy file. Legacy makes it so much easier to clean
up FTM files. Make generous use of Master Location
Linda,
Well, if you set up separate family files, I hope your memory is better than
mine. I caught myself a couple of times not remembering which file I put
new info into. Since surnames will have at least one repeat across each
file I had trouble remembering or sometimes would just open
Marilyn,
Try puting in the GPS coordinates 42.57222 -87.81972 (or maybe Legacy
has it listed as City Cemetery)

Martin,
Yes, you have me even more confused. I asked someone last week how to list
an Ireland location. Not wanting to risk offending anyone on the list, I
didn't want to post my question, but now I must. In an effort to be
accurate, I wanted to know if I would list an unknown location in
John,
I find all this history wonderfully fascinating. Would you be willing to stay
in contact with me via my personal email? I would be very interested to
incorporate this kind of info in my family history when I get that far back.

Marie,
FTM gives you two options:
FTM for Dos - uses Gedcom (*GED)
Gedcom (*GED)
Use the last option. The first is FTM specific.
