I have a relative whom I'm told drowned in the Sea of Japan. He was a
member of the 188 Parachute Infantry WWII. Would it be correct to just put
Sea of Japan in the died in field?
Thank you

Hi
Hi Arnold,
I kind of agree with Ron's response, that if the ship was in Port, the
location would probably be the port. (Almost as if she were in a
building on the shore.)
But if the ship were at sea, then yes, I would put At Sea. This

Hi Jack,
I like your At Sea example.
I have someone in my database who died at the very end of a

Thanks.

I would put the name of the ship in the notes. So my automatically
generated report sentences would read something like: Michael died at
sea southeast of Newfoundland, Canada. He had been a passenger aboard
R. M. S. Titanic when it sank.
But in my book, I rewrote it completely, of course,

I should have explained myself better.
The information came
I rarely use the Legacy tickbox for This individual never married
since the words were added and had no children. There are many women
(and some known men) in my Scottish database who had children out of
wedlock. They might be single on the death register - often signed
by a child.
I use my own

so far I haven't found anything to prove that there were children ...
but if so, again it's easy to change in Legacy.

As one cannot easily prove a negative I would think that this is as
close as you are going to get and personally I would accept

Thanks for this Ron.
Is it better to acknowledge the help given or does this add
unnecessarily to the list ?

Clear enough. What is your 'source' for this data? How
do you KNOW he? died unmarried? Gravestone? Letter?
Family story? That is the starting point.

That might be a bit jumping to the conclusion; all we know for sure is
that at the time of death he/she was neither married nor widowed. He/she
could be divorced, have had an annulled marriage, or have kids
regardless.

Ron, I tried deleting an 'unknown' person and was unable to do so. I went to the name list and could not select the person in question.

I don't print many reports but have the opportunity now and I noticed a
phrase that disturbs me. This report includes many civil war era women who
died without ever marrying because of the shortage of men.
I have marked them as never married an had no children and on the
