Hi Lorraine,
Yes your Gedcom imported into Legacy becomes a Legacy family file -
BUT it did not originate from your own family file so can't be merged
with your own family file using Intellishare.
All my original comments still apply except that in "It could also be

Thanks, Cathy, for the comments. I did not make myself clear on that score.
It was a GEDCOM file that I downloaded onto my harddrive, then created a
Legacy family file just for it, and imported the GEDCOM file into the Legacy
family file with the *wizard importer.* When I had checked it over, I u
Hi Lorraine,
To correct a misconception. If you are merging a file you have
created from a Gedcom you can't use Intellishare.
Intellishare is an internal Legacy merging tool. Each Legacy file in
the background gives an intellishare number to each person. It is

I don't know yet but we have identified the real

At one time I had similar problems. Here is what I
did. (Should take about 1 minute per 'screen').

Hi, Richard - thanks for responding!
I looked at my file name list, which shows 829 individuals. When I scanned
it, it looked about right. But I was surprised at the number, because I

Duplicates" list and discovered 3081. I
I hope I am reading this wrong, but here is my take.
You do not mention the two unique file names you are
using for the two files. My example: oldfile.fdb and
newfile.fdb I suspect you added the second back unto
the first. Look at the Name List for each. What are
the count totals for them? How many
Thanks, Dawn. I did actually do that the first time, undoing the merge,
retreating to the backup file, and then starting the GEDCOM download again.
I have double checked the merge options, and they seem normal. Under the
Ancestral File and user ID numbers, there aren't any duplicates, but under

I have not come across such a problem with Legacy. If I did, I would
close the program & start again, using my backup. When "find
duplicates" is selected from the "merge" options, the program allows the
user to set a variety of acceptable ranges to consider as duplicates.
I'd double-check my
I'm using Legacy 6.0 Deluxe. Yesterday afternoon I created a new Legacy
family file for a GEDCOM that I downloaded with a large number of entries. I
merged it into my existing Legacy family file for a particular line, and the
merge appeared fine until I started the find duplicates feature. Every
