Todd,
I found that Legacy will *not* run on 'wine'. Use the option here or
there have been some other options on the list just, one by Sherry.

Bob,
I am using VMWare Fusion, with XP Pro installed on it, and running Legacy
very nicely on both my MacBook Air and my iMac. If you haven't tried it with
the latest generation of Macs, you will be surprised at how beautifully it
works. Just like having a little pc inside my Mac. Legacy is the

Helen,
No we don't. Legacy will run on Linux with Win4Lin, VMWare or Sun's Virtual
Box.
Thanks for using Legacy.

Sherry,
Thanks for the response, but I am aware of Win4Lin and VMWare. However, my
point is that I am moving away from Windows and with Win4Lin and VMWare, I

Paul, have you looked at the Wine AppDB list? Someone has
successfully installed Legacy 7 using Wine 1.0-rc4 on openSUSE 10.3
(see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=applicationiId=3207).
They might have some insight for you.
Also on that list it appears that Legacy 5 works well
Steve, Sherry,
Thanks for the comments. Steve, I followed those directions to no
avail. I, too, saw where they got Legacy 5 working but not 6 and I
didn't see any comment about version 7. But, I won't give up that
easily! lol
Thanks again,

I have been doing some research into using Legacy in a totally

I still have more research to do.
Then I'll need to get my feet wet and actually try it.
In the end I hope to be able to run Legacy on a memory stick

Legacy requires Windows or a very good emulator.
It *might* be possible to run Legacy on a Linux box IF you can get a
version of WINE for the Linux box and IF Legacy works OK under WINE (I
don't know because I haven't tried it). Unless someone can verify that

John,
As far as I know there is not a version of Legacy which will run on a Linux
system. The Legacy database is an Access database ie. Microsoft. I too have
looked at getting one of these laptops (and not only because of the price) but
not being able to run Legacy and its associated products

I appreciate your response. That's what I feared. I'll stick with pocket

Hi John
I replaced Linux with XP on my Asus EEPC specifically to run Legacy

One of our users did some testing of Legacy on Linux a few years ago and
reported Legacy runs fine using Win4Lin or VMWare. Win4Lin is a commercial
package which allows to install Win98 under Linux. Then Legacy can be
installed and run natively in a Win98 environment. It runs at about the same
Look at Virtualbox. They have a linux version to run windoze under.
I'd look at gramps. I run it in linux (ubunto) using virtualbox.
Actually quite a good program
