In Legacy, Privacy brackets are double square brackets [[what you want kept private]] In Reports and exports of your file to either another Legacy file or a Gedcom you have the option of including material in Privacy brackets or not. You'll find more explanation in the Help file if you search

I use a "#" at the end of questionable names, as it will sort the name into the correct place in an alphabetic sort, but is still obvious. You can also search for any name that "contains" a # to create a list of questionable items, or to mark all the questionable items as Private so they don't app
