As others have said, there's good reason to record every reference to your
family that you've found when researching (and I wouldn't combine them).
When you publish your work, however, the guidelines are a little different.
In publishing, you would generally pare your sources down to the best

I have sources along the lines of
Census - Transcription - 1881 - Ontario, York West
Census - Index - 1881 - Ontario, York West
Census - Image - 1881 - Ontario, York West
Census - Film - 1881 - Ontario York West
I would use up to all 4, depending on what

I never combine sources. It is my view that each source stands by itself and
should be recorded as such, for the benefit of both myself and any future
researchers. If the sources give different "facts" then I still enter both, and
usually make a note as to why I have elected to choose a p
