Tony,
I am not at all clear as to what you expect to happen. You say that you have
switched off tag 9 for the first individual, in actual fact you have removed
the tag i.e. the first person is no longer tag 9, and, therefore, not on the
list at all. When you click the blue arrow again it would
The way I get around this is to produce a search list for Tag 9
After each edit, remove the Tag 9
Every now and then, refresh the search list (which will bring you back to the
top of the list), otherwise use F3 to move through the list.
If you want to retain the original list, then use a
This way makes it particularly easy since you can just run down the Search
List and make the edits in the tabs to the right. No need to go in and out
of everyone's Individual Information windows.
This is my favorite way to change something in a group of people!

Colin, Here's how to search on modified date. Maybe that can help you.

Thanks, Syble, for your feedback. After pondering the decision quite a bit, I
use the surname-first approach you've made me sigh in relief. ;) I've just
recently added a folder for places that aren't really linked to an individual.
Otherwise, all documents and photos are named for the primary
Thanks for your encouraging words, Paul, re: Photoshop. I got mine for
Christmas (sadly, still haven't found time to install it!) and Geoff's book is
on its way---looking forward to upgrading my photo organization. Thanks again.

Sally, I realize I am coming to this thread late, but I use the format
surname_givenname-maidenname-_recordtype_shortlocation.xxx
Someone here suggested putting the maiden names between hyphens to help them
stand out. Anyway, for an individual, all their files show up in date order,
except
Thanks for this thread - had thought about how to work in CSS, but hadn't yet
tried it.

Wow, Helle, when I sort my LUG email folder by Subject to get all posts on a
particular topic together, yours show up all at the bottom because of the SV:

Very interesting thread (and not what I thought it would be based on the
Subject line).
I don't think the file or page or set of introductory notes does not have
to be IN the database... IF it is backed up WITH the database.
If you follow Leo's instructions below, BUT save the file in a folder
Hi Paula.
Yes “Sv.” Stands for ”svar” which in Danish is the word for reply. (Or rather
an answer to a question).
Wish there was an easier way for sorting – though sometimes I get surprised
with WHAT Outlook is sorting correctly in spite of differences in language and
subjects. J

You need to make the distinction between sorting and threading.

For easy renaming of batch files try a File renamer. With some simple

After many years of organizing image files I find there is
good reason to have a Places folder, and in that folder I
keep images of places and things (homes, headstones,
cemetery entrances, etc). Most of the files in my Places
sub-folder, are named beginning with the surname they are

Agreed,
Many categories of scanned images or photos are grouped together. (In
folders and/or within the filename itself)
For me, some have a 'prefix as part of the filename and for others they
have the type/category as part of the filename.
These prefix's are like;
z_st_ for all headstones
