I just installed a new hard drive and have reconstructed my files and trying
to reclaim my life after a hard drive crash. I got everything restored and
updated. However, when I attempt to open Legacy, I received the following
error:
Error Opening Message File.

I have rebooted and tried to reinstall Legacy 8 from the web site, but still

How do I export a range of RINs to a GEDCOM file?
For example, RIN 2712 to 2835?

Hi
That is caused because the Jet engine has found a lock database for
your Legacy database.
Your Legacy database will be .fdb and the system found a
matching .ldb file, in the same folder, that is created when you are
running Legacy.
All you need to do is locat
easiest way is to use the Name List, sort by RIN, and tag the ones you want.
Then, export tagged individuals.

A couple of ways:
1. Put all of the individuals into a Focus group and export that.
2. Put all of the individuals with a unique tag and export that.
I don't think there is a quick way to make the group or tags unless all of
the individuals are related.

If your family file is named "MY_File.fdb" You need to search for "MY_File.ldb", the
"Lock File" that is preventing you from opening your file. Substitute your actual file name.
Apparently Legacy was open when your drive crashed and the lock file remained.

After removing all .ldb files from my computer, I rebooted, reinstalled
Legacy and still get the same message. I verified that there are no .ldb
files on the computer.
Any other suggestions?

Is it possible that your .ldb file is hidden? I think you might have to
change some windows settings in order to see "hidden" files.

To tag a sequential group of RINs, go to Name List, click on the # (first
column ) and enter the first number. Now pick which tag number you want and
double-click down the column, advancing the page of names as necessary. Once
tagged you can export the tagged group, or whatever else you want.
That was the answer to my problem. Thank you very much.

Thanks, that sounds like the easiest suggestion yet.
Hi, is there a separate email address that could be used for problems! A lot of
these emails I have been getting are of no use.
Sorry to be a nag but these block up my inbox. I would unsubscribe but then I
wouldn't receive the magazine.

If you want assistance from your fellow Legacy users, this is the place
to send them.
Yes, there will be emails that are of no interest to you - that is the
nature of mailing lists. You are free to delete unread any posts that do
not attract you, but know that if you do so you may miss out on
