And further to what Michele said. The adding of records to people is
being done at the FamilySearch site not in your file.
The only way you add data to your file is through a deliberate choice.
Using the arrows in LFS for example to upload date from your file to
FamilySearch or for downloading
Got it. Thanks.

Good to know. I didn't enter them but they may have entered themselves
without realizing the effect. I will let them know their data is there.

The only living people you can see on FamilySearch are ones that you have
entered yourself. FamilySearch is VERY strict about that. They have probably
the tightest privacy policy. My name, date of birth etc. is in FamilySearch.
I put it there. If you were to add my name with my date of bir
I haven't entered any FSIDs in my Legacy. Before today I wouldn't have
known a FSID if I had seen it. I now see there are some there. I was
distressed to find personal data on living people in FamilySearch which
caused my concern.

FamilySearch is different (in many ways). To get a FamilySearch hint that
person has to have an FSID entered in Legacy which means you have already
linked your person to that same person on FamilySearch (that does NOT mean that
there was actual data transfer in either direction). When you get a
Ok Legacy does not provide information from my file to the hint sources.
Why does FamilySearch then ask me if I wish to add each record to a person
in their database? I'm curious as to what exactly is going on with that.

No, you do not have to have uploaded a gedcom to get hints. You are seeing
hints from other people's trees. Look at it this way...
You could go to MyHeritage and fill in their search fields, names, dates,

So hinting sites only give hints if I have uploaded a gedcom to them?
I thought Legacy V9 hints sent some info up so they could tell if they
had hints. Then I could decide to subscribe if I wanted to get the
info. More confused now. Not sure what Legac
MyHeritage does not have access to your data. The only way for your data to

I'm a little confused about the hinting in V9 and the concerns about
MyHeritate getting and publishing users' data. Is there any way that
the "hinting sites" can use my Legacy database data for their own use?
Put it on their site? Or do they just look at it and suggest hints
that only I see?
