Here is one more thing to check.
When you bring up the “GEDCOM Export†window to create your file try
clicking on the “Customizeâ€. In the resulting “Items to Include…â€
window,
look in the right side list of items and

I've never seen this matter brought up when discussing lumping vs. splitting
sources. It seems to me this means extreme splitting!! (And I know you've
said you're a lumper!!)

Should that have happened? Is there a way to avoid it?
If that's the norm, then one should certainly be a "splitter"!!
