the bottom of the section you will see a link with instructions to get the
Lilypond engine working with TexShop. Note that point and click does NOT
work with TexShop (it is not compatible). Make sure that TexShop is set to
save files in UTF-8 Unicode format or Lilypond will choke.

This was a big move forward for me as the previous
documentation did not include the images or they did not get installed on
Mac OS X. This meant that I had to go to the internet and farm the required
pages from the Lilypond site. I am sure the tarball is a far better

The section that I think needs improvement is the documentation to make
tweeks easier. Lilypond is a very powerful piece of software and I find that
where I spend the most time is trying to construct tweeks.

other interesting point is that the examples in the documentation show the
\paper block appearing at the end of the file. When I tried placing it
there, none of the settings seemed to have any effect. The lesson here is
that sometimes in lilypond it makes a difference where things (ie.
ower the note
by more than one octave. I have produced by accident lines of music with
many ledger lines below the staff. I cannot see why this would not be the
case for a staff with a bass clef.

I ran an old file through convert-ly and examined it to find that it did not
change the syntax. The new file ran without warnings but the generated file
gave the same result as described above; circle with no number.

. I suspect that there are many people
who have installed Lilypond and have given up on it because of these issues.
I for one will try to improve my command of Lilypond, but these frustrations
are real for me.

install a version of a program that is not listed using the list command?
Also what is the best way to update a Lilypond installation? Install a new
version and then remove the old? Or is it possible to update just the
application?

Everything seems fine up to the point where Lilypond calls dvips to convert
the dvi file to a ps and pdf file. Is this something that would have got
changed in the installation? Sorry if this is not the appropriate place to
ask this question but if so where should I ask it?

Hello, I just got 2.1.15 working and have noticed that no beams are drawn.
Have others noticed this? I checked the NEWS document and didn't notice that
anything had changed.
