Michael,
first of all: no need to worry.
This message indicates a data underrun, which is quite normal to occur time
and again. A data underrun is not necessarily a problem - but failing to
deal with it appropriately would be.
A good example is the INQUIRY command, which is issued by software

Hi,
That SCSI underrun problem surfaced just after the 2.4 -261 kernel level.
I have several -261 guests using SCSI and they do not have the problem.
I have a guest at the -281 level that has the problem, and I am certain that
at least 1 earlier level (than -281) also exhibited the problem.

this is exactly what we should consider for our environment.
am I understanding correctly that I can run my .NET app under zLinux? We
are using SMB/SAMBA just for file-print services.
I always thought that you needed IIS for .NET.
am I also correct in saying that DB2-Distributed Services

Hi, Uriel.
Yes, that is what Dr Boyes is saying.
While you might need MS IIS for .NET, there is an open source project
called Mono (sponsored by Novell) that aims to provide a .NET compatible
framework for environments other than MS Windows. Linux on zSeries is a
supported environment (at

It's a clear

Is there a reliable formula, you can apply to EKCD formatted minidisks
where you can say if application 'foo' needs 775 megs of disk space, and
the inodes are 4096 bytes (or whatever size) then you need X many cylinders
of minidisk space to accommodate that? I'm not all that concerned about
1000 Cylinders is ~700MB.

Hello all,
I am trying to build a Basevol/Guestvol Shared OS DASD system. It appears that
the SuSE 9 system is different from SuSE 8. I have a bunch of SuSE 8 system
up sharing the OS. Is there anything special to make the SuSE 9 work?
and does it work if the shared OS dasd is an LVM?

Yes, with some minor restrictions (there are some Windows-specific functions
that you need to avoid, but these are unlikely to be present -- for once,
Hi, Bob.
Unfortunately, the basevol/guestvol approach invented by CA's Bill
Scully for SLES 8 and similar Linux kernels does not work with the newer
SLES9 version. There was a significant change between SLES8 and SLES9
in device handling and the manner in which the mount --bind remounting
