Congrats Mark.
Maybe we'll see you at something like the VM workshop.
If not, enjoy retirement as it is well deserved!

It will be interesting to see how the adaptation grows once available.

An alternative to this could be our High Availability Option for RHEL.

Feel free to contact me directly at: k...@sinenomine.net if this is
something you would like to look into more.
NOTE: You would still want to go through a design overview.
On Tue,
That is the latest version we have available:

While I have not heard about anyone having any problems running at this
release, I did send a note to Neale for confirmation and will post any
follow up received. You will of course have to upgrade z/VM

I wonder if that winds up depending on where you or they run it?
- I stated it that way knowing that IBM is pushing KVM on zCloud over just
offering z/VM as a Service (zaas) for running Linux guest like they should
be!

I know some government locations have been looking at this and that’s what

And yes, while some intel servers are up over 3ghz and can be overclocked,
that may not be normal from the cloud based services that are today’s real

100% adds capacity value over purely looking at just
processing speed too.
NOTE: Any given application may not be faster. That is why I stated
"could be on z".

I read that this really means all x86 only environments), one has to
question how much faster and more saleable they could be on z.

Hopefully this winds up really helping z focused hybrid clouds however

We do have a tape manager.

Thanks for all the quick feed back. The info obtained is very helpful as
we start to push this effort forward.

Greetings List,
We're getting ready to try an replace our IBM 7720 VTS's with EMC DLm's
and have not heard about any real fully successful migrations for use with
z/VM and Linux. Any info that can be shared is appreciated.
Thanks,

Greetings list,
I just wanted to let others know that if you are currently sending SCRT
reports into IBM for sub capacity pricing, you might be able to stream line
your efforts using Velocity Software. We're in the early stages of
automating this process for our zTPF usage, however its worth no
SIE it ain't so on x86!

One does have to question if the fix(es) will cause additional overhead, no
matter what platform the system resides on.

Greetings list,
Like many places, we don't have a lot of prep time and can't afford many
outages for maint. That said, we're looking to upgrade our 630 systems for
the move over upgrading right away to 640 with all the pre-reqs. While so
many fixes now being dynamic, I am hoping that the follo
Zero might be the best quick real answer to the question in the subject.
If the workload is known to run on the platform, folks might be willing to
share their experiences. No matter what, consider running test that can be
scaled while measuring true impact to set real expectations.

My understanding, noting that everyone has to do there own negotiating with
Oracle, is they charge for all real cores Oracle can run on. 5 IFL'S = 5
cores. Cores in reserve should not matter.
How you set up your lpar's really depends on goals.
The Oracle z Linux SIG is still being worked on for

You can always give them what they want, and then show them what they
really need.
- Any good performance tool will help make that easier.
Then work with them to understand possible growth requirements.
- That may help balance using tools like CMM as mentioned over manual
intervention.
