If you have PROP running (if not you should look into it) on OPERAOR userid it
can trap the logon of LINUX guests and issue the command on their behalf. More
complex would be to set up a privilege class user running PROP which is the
alternate console of all your LINUX guests.

Robin. I'm assuming your using VCTC. Consider using a VSWITCH or VLAN. A lot
easier to manage. CTCA are more complicated. A common problem with CTCA is
that you need to cross over the send and receive addresses OR change an
options of the define link statement.

I just installed SLES 10 in a VM userid using 150 for root and 151 for SWAP.
The IPL works fine. I decided to clone the userid to do some testing so I
shutdown the SLES 10 system / logged off userid and copied both 150 and 151 to
a userid called SUSE1. When I IPL 150 on SUSE1 it always stops at try

Thanks Mark for your welcome. Sorry I didn't get back to you today but I was at
another client site today. I logged in tonight and got the following
information. No LVM. I thought I did a pretty standard install.
I just got a copy of SLES 10 install cookbook so I will review it next Monday

this both LINUX04 and LINUX02 can ping each other but I still cannot
ping SLES10. Did VSWITCH record/map the IP address to the MAC address or
something? Do I need a fix?
Any comments/suggested are greatly appreciated.

No real reason Mark. I share my VSWITCH with VM/TCPIP and VSE guests in the
other LPAR. I could create another VSWITCH but I think once I put this into
production I will be creating a Guest Lan which will host a separate subnet and
be protected by a firewall (a student lab scenario) .

The TCPIP userid is not the controller as David mentioned.
Mark. I will not be able to try the Traceroute until I get back into the office
on Monday.
In the past I used TCPIP as a router but with the vswitch I moved away from
that practice.

If you wish to connect to the Linux guest under z/VM you will need to use
the Linux guest IP address. I believe this is what you want to do with RDz.
z/VM is only the hypervisor supporting many types of guests which generally
have their own IP. VM will have one or more IP addresses for itself in t
