Try the SPident command.
This may or may not give you the results you want. If you haven't applied
the SP3 directly, but rather just maintained your system using YOU, SPident
will tell you that your system is not up-to-date.
:~ sudo SPident
CONCLUSION: System is NOT up-to-date!

In that case, run SPident - (yes, 4 v) and try to understand which
packages were not updated correctly.
You need only to have one conflicting package to receive a not up-to-date
status.

As I mentionned earlier, you might want to run SPident - to check which
packages were not correctly updated, then run the update manually (rpm -Fvh
myfile.rpm).
You should be able to work your way around with this.

Mace,
I had the same results as you several months ago after using YAST to
apply online updates up through SP3. YAST did not automatically select
all of our packages. Here's how I was able to get clean results from
the SPident command.
1. SPident -vvv (like Dominic stated)
2. Note the
that it can be selected for installation.

You should log on to the Novell site and download the patch manually.
From there, upgrade by using rpm -Fvh yourfile.rpm .
